FESTIVAL DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Having learnt from the 2020 chapter of the festival, RFF (Rustenburg Film Festival) 2021 promises to be much bigger and better. Unlike last year we have put together a more interesting program and we have added new items that will definitely be of interest to any serious filmmaker. We have remained faithful to our founding purpose: developing, connect and promoting local films/filmmakers. This is what have helped us to reach more 20, 000 people in our 2020 inaugural event through our online platforms.
The 2021 RFF will go on further to launch the festival laurel’s and for the first time invite filmmakers from all over the country to submits their films for competition. This will give an interesting opportunity for filmmakers to come an exhibit their work at the festival. The selected films will fall under the officially selected categories. An independent festival jury consisting of top South African filmmakers will be appointed to judge these films and participants of the festival will have an opportunity to weigh-in into the judging process.
We will offer participants not only screenings, but discussions, workshops, master classes, pitching opportunities and opportunities to meet and learn from other filmmakers from around South Africa. During the 2021 Rustenburg Film Festival chapter we will continue to offer online sessions for those who are unable to join us at the venue.
